About the Artist

Karen L. Haynes

Karen is a self-taught, accomplished artist. Her primary mediums are watercolor and acrylic and she occasionally paints in oils.  She has had a special interest in art since a child but it was not until she returned to live in the United States from Europe that she has had more time to devote to her art.

Many of Karen's paintings have been drawn from her vast experiences and extensive travels to many countries, mainly in Europe.  She, along with her husband Ted and four children, lived and worked in Spain for many years and her love for that beautiful land and culture is expressed in many of her paintings.

Karen has been a member of several art guilds and has held three solo exhibits.  She was an Art Instructor for the developmentally disabled for over 4  years which she found both challenging and rewarding.  She was commissioned to illustrate a book of poems and recently illustrated a children's novel which has been published.  She is now illustrating another children's book for the same author and at the same time writing and illustrating her own children's books.

Karen creates custom house, pet, travel photos and children's portraits by  commission.  She has completed many commissioned works of art over the past few years.  She also gives private and group lessons.

"I believe that art should be something that brings joy and inspiration to the soul and beauty and warmth to your home and  business.  My mission is to release the hidden artistic expression of art that resides within me to inspire others and  bring beauty and intrigue through my art. And also to  encourage creativity in others, young and old alike to discover the expression of art that resides within each one of us!" ~KLH

Karen just finished illustrating a children's novel for boys and girls ages 7 to 12 years old, entitled "The Secret of Shannon-Berry Kingdom" which includes over 20 paintings (an art illustration for each chapter plus front cover).  It will be on sale in Barnes and Nobles bookstore and also eventually on other sites -- to be announced.  Postings of some of the art illustrated in the book will be available for sale soon on this website.  She is also AVAILABLE  as an illustrator for children's books.
